In 1988 Charlotte established their first NBA team, the Charlotte Hornets. 14 years later this team would relocate to New Orleans. Not long after the Hornets departure, Charlotte regained an NBA franchise in the Bobcats; however, their lackluster performance didn’t invigorate the Charlotte fan-base. In 2014 Charlotte successfully regained the Hornets name and excitement returned to the Queen City.
The Buzz capitalizes on the excitement and volition of the Charlotte community in bringing home their rightful identity. Designed with Hornets fans in mind this iPad application seeks to re-energize, reconnect and remind the Charlotte community of their home team. The app allows the user to explore the team, its history and its players while offering an innovative reading experience that allows you to engage with and curate content in an intuitive manner.
The app invites the user to familiarize themselves with the players by revealing their jersey number, photo, and access to player specific stats, videos and articles. When reading the articles the user is able to swipe to remove paragraphs to create a more concise summary of the content. Legacy mode allows the user to relive the history of the Hornets by creating your “Charlotte Hornets Dream Team”. Once your team has been chosen the application responds by curating your content relative to your selections. Any changes to your “team” will re-curate the content that appears.
By providing the Charlotte community with an opportunity to reconnect with the team that they fought so hard to reclaim, the Hornets brand and the Charlotte area will both benefit as their allegiance to one another strengthens.
